Michelle J. Angerman and Associates, Inc. works with clients in
selecting and acquiring works of fine art. Based on the nature of the
project, the advisory process is tailored to impeccably fit our
clients’ requests.
Art
Acquisition
Our firm is devoted to
meeting our clients’ needs. Whether you are looking for a certain piece
of art by a particular artist, are interested in forming a new
collection, or looking to add an exciting piece of art to your existing
collection, Michelle Angerman will work closely with you to find the
piece that is right for you. Michelle Angerman has strong business
affiliations with Los Angeles and New York galleries, dealers and
auction houses, providing the client with peace of mind that they are
buying from a highly reputable source. Michelle Angerman will advise
and make all arrangements necessary from the very first step of the
process through the conclusion of the project. We pride ourselves in
finding the best pieces within our clients’ budgets, negotiating on
their behalf, and conducting market analysis to ensure our clients are
paying a competitive price. Our services also include arranging
delivery and installation as well as choosing framing options if the
piece is unframed or the client wishes to change the existing frame.
Selling
Michelle J. Angerman and
Associates, Inc. brokers sales in fine and decorative arts for its
clients. Working with many of the local and national auction houses,
our firm can assure that in selling your art, we choose the most
appropriate marketplace in order to achieve the highest selling prices.
Often times those without the experience of buying and selling at
auction can be intimidated by the processes involved. Michelle Angerman
worked at Christie’s, New York and understands the internal workings of
the auction house. Our firm will work with the client and the auction
house specialists to select and agree upon auction estimates as well as
set the reserve that is in the best interest of our clients. We ensure
that the consignment paperwork is completed accurately and arrange for
the shipment or delivery of the artwork to the auction house.
TYPES OF APPRAISALS
Michelle J. Angerman and Associates, Inc. conducts various types of
appraisals depending upon the expressed purpose of the report. All
appraisals are written in accordance with the Uniform Standards of
Professional Appraisal Practice as set forth by the Appraisal
Foundation and in compliance with the report writing standards of the
International Society of Appraisers and the Appraisers Association of
America.
Insurance
Scheduling
In order to assure proper
coverage, an insurance appraisal provides the insurance company with an
itemized schedule of fine art. Each article is identified, catalogued,
photographed and assigned a Retail Replacement Value.
Damage / Loss
Claim
In the event of a loss
(i.e. fire, flood, etc.) or damage to an individual work or collection
of fine art, a formal appraisal is necessary in order to determine the
depreciated value of a damaged article or the value of the loss forming
the settlement for an insurance claim.
Equitable
Distribution
In the event of an
equitable distribution (i.e. divorce, estate planning, business
dissolution), an official appraisal of the articles to be disseminated
is extremely useful in order to decide upon the basis for the division
of personal property.
Estate
An itemized report is
required by the IRS for estates worth more than 2 million. An Estate
Appraisal establishes the tax liability due to the IRS.
Non-Cash
Charitable Contribution
The IRS requires formal
documentation for the donation of any article of fine art exceeding a
Fair Market Value of $5,000. The purpose of the appraisal is to
determine the tax credit for the IRS.
Collateral
A Collateral Appraisal
determines the Marketable Cash Value (the value, net of expenses) of an
article of fine art to be used as collateral.
Appraisal Updates
It is generally accepted that an appraisal should be
revalued every three to five years. However, due to the high volatility
of some markets in comparison to others, the exact point in time in
which an appraisal should be updated is dependent upon the scope of the
collection. Once an appraisal report is properly written and certified,
updated appraisal reports become less costly.
Fees
Fees are based on an hourly rate plus expenses and
are in no way determined by the appraised value.
A fee schedule is available upon request.
*Please note, there is no minimum fee, nor a minimum number of works
required.
